One way we learn to pray is by praying words from the Bible. May these prayers based on Scripture kindle our prayers and our faith:
We are not
asking you to take us out of the world but that you protect us from the evil
one. We are not of this world any more than Christ was of this world. Make us
holy by your word of truth, because your word is truth. As you sent Christ into
this world, he has sent us. (John
17:15-18)
We are
like sheep among wolves. Help us to be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as
doves. We know that we will face trials and persecutions on account of you, so
give us the words we need to give you glory as your witnesses. Speak through
us. (Matthew
10:16-19)
Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and
my mind. (Ps. 26:2)
In the
time of testing may your word remain deep within us. May our faith not wither
away; instead may it bear abundant fruit. (Lk.
8:13-15)
We thank
you that we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our
weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we
are—yet he did not sin. Because of this we approach your throne of grace with
confidence. Be merciful and gracious to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews
4:14-16)
We have
seen how you rescued Noah and his family in the days of ungodly and how you
rescued Lot and his family in the time of lawlessness. You know how to rescue
the godly from trials and hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of
judgment. Rescue us. (2 Peter
2:4-9)
Keep us
from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the
inhabitants of the earth. (Revelation
3:10)
Lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew
6:13)
