Give Thanks - Praying the Psalms

It is one thing to read a psalm; it is another to pray it in thanksgiving.

***
Psalm 100
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2      Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

***

Psalm 107 is another great psalm of thanksgiving. The psalm tells the story of different groups of people who were distanced from God, but God brought them back. Note that the common refrain for each group is “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.”

Do you find yourself described in one of the groups? Give thanks to the Lord. Could you write your own stanza for this psalm? Give thanks to the Lord. In all things – give thanks to the Lord!
