Desiring God's Will - Singing our Prayers

So many songs are written as prayers, and they stay with us and pop into our heads in ways that words alone often don't. When I was young I remember singing “Have Thine Own Way, Lord” quite a bit (Psalter Hymnal 287). When praying “your will be done,” I particularly like the last verse.

(listen to it on youtube here, or if you are more of a Johnny Cash fan, try this.)
“Have Thine Own Way, Lord”

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
while I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today.
Open mine eyes, my sin show me now,
as in thy presence humbly I bow.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray.
Power, all power, surely is thine.
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine.

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway.
Fill with thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in me.

Text: Adelaide A. Pollard, 1901.
